Who am I?

My name is Carol Woolf, born in Christchurch, New Zealand (1971). I was fortunate to live a good life in my earlier years, growing up to be a curious and respectful human being. I have travelled the world learning about myself, other cultures and ways of life along my journey. Based in Sydney and London, I backpacked various regions of the world, including India, Central America and other fascinating places. Along the way I worked in a variety of industries; Customs Agency, freight forwarding industry, transport industry, manufacturing and telecommunications. I have operated two of my own businesses, a local furniture removal company, and as an importer and distributor of boutique merchandise into New Zealand.

My travels and insights into life, especially regarding the ‘trials and tribulations’ common to all human beings in the process of living, inspired me to want to learn more. I decided upon training in social work.

I completed my Social Work Training at Canterbury Polytechnic Institute of Technology in 2005 and immediately began my social work career at Christchurch Hospital. I worked in a variety of acute settings with focus on brief assessments, emergency trauma work and discharge planning. I truly found my passion was in working with people living with chronic illness. A decade of working with complex and challenging casework has assisted me in developing a wide range of skills and knowledge. The healthcare environment has also presented me the opportunity to work with people from all backgrounds and cross sections of our society, from young people through to the aged and at end of life; and everything in between!

I continued my thirst for learning and completed a Diploma in Holistic Life Coaching (Life Coach Associates). This was a comprehensive and intensive journey into oneself in the process of learning to apply the skills and knowledge in working with others.

In 2010-2011, and through Christchurch’s earthquakes, I embarked on the Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy with the New Zealand School of Professional Hypnotherapy (in association with the UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences). I completed all my studies and incorporate aspects of clinical hypnosis into my private therapy work through progressive body relaxation and positive visualisation techniques to support therapy work.

I have undertaken three and half years in T.A (Transactional Analysis) psychotherapy training here in Christchurch; T.A is a very broad and in-depth model of understanding human behaviour. T.A is a practical tool for clients wishing to have a comprehensive framework for understanding their own relationships, actions, internal thought processes and emotions.
I remain working in the health sector in addition to my private practice; currently I work in older persons’ health. Prior to this I was working in a specialised health area which included a dedicated role working with adolescence.

My objective in working with people is to walk alongside them; facilitating opportunities for growth throughout their journey; by supporting, challenging and assisting each person towards achieving agreed goals and outcomes.
